Question 2000 F-150 GEM Module location

Does anyone know where exactly the GEM Module is located on my 2000 f150? I need to replace it but have conflicting info on the location. Someone told me it was behind the instument panel and another said behind the fuse box...

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you are talking about the GEM module for your 4wheel drive , mine is a 98 and is located on drivers side up under dash behind fuse box. I think mine is bad but have not priced one yet. Do you know what one cost and have you checked Fordpartsonline for a price.

Hi top37 and welcome

The GEM is attached to the back of the fuse box. You remove them both at the same time.

I'm curious as to why you need to replace it. Is it because accessories like the radio or blower fan are coming on by themselves, strange things like that. I have seen quite a few like this, the main problem for that is water leaking into the gem. Just a thought.

Hello,

Thanks for all your info. I brought my truck to my local Ford dealer because the drivers side power window stopped working, the passenger window will only work intermittenly as well. The Ford Tech told me they did a scan and found the GEM Module was bad, they too also said it was most likely cause by a water leak. They told me its going to cost between $300 and $325 to fix it with labor. I have connections with another Ford garage thats out of state that ill be getting the parts from. My cost is going to be about $110. It soundslike a big job, anyone attempt this yet? When I get done with my repairs ill let you all know how it went.

Thanks again.

Replacing the GEM is a bit of a pain in the neck but not terribly bad.
If there is any possibility that the windshield leaks make sure you get that resealed first. You don't want to kill a second GEM.
