It is ALIVE!!!!

Hey all!!! Sorry I have missed the 1st couple of meetings.... but I have been wrestling with the engine swap in the Bronco. I am happy to report that all the "bugs" have been worked out and have started driving around the neighborhood.
Anybody out there good with E4OD transmissions? I'm experiencing a hard shift automatically, however, it drops right into gears if you shift manually.
Thanks,
DEnnis

Do you have a pinched or leaking vaccuum line?

FastRonald,
I do'nt think so... but I'll check, Thanks. I have another problem as of last night. I took the Bronco out on 294 at 95th st and got as far as 127th and the temp gauge shot through the roof. Shut her down and let it cool off. Then temp was erratic all the way back home. Several stops to cool off. There are no coolant leaks so I'm leaning towards a stuck, or partially opening Thermostat as I was getting heat to the heater core the entire time. No strange sounds from the water pump.... so I gotta figure its in the TStat. I have gotta get this done before it gets too cold out.
Thanks,
Dennis

The T-stat could be it..... a collapsing radiator hose or a head gasket flipped end for end.

I thought about the head gasket, but the problem comes and goes, and is getting worse. The head gasket flipped would cause a full-time overheat situation would'nt it?

Does the lower hose have to coil in it? Is the water pump new?

I know where you're going with this. It was late yesterday when I got it back home ... I'll pull it the garage when I get home today, and go through the usual checks. I am going to change the TStat and see where that goes. I'm confused, because the truck did'nt overheat with the old motor in it. All the components are from the old motor. I swapped the heads and block and that was it. Water pump and hoses all came from old motor.

Swap

How did you make out? Does the radiator now have rust or crap in it that may have broken loose from the block?

FastRonald,
Sorry I have'nt posted sooner... had the flu. Ok, I replaced the Tstat and the problem got a little better, but still running a bit hot. Here's the funny thing. At idle the Temp gauge is just fine, you see it warm up and then drop a bit when the Tstat opens. When I start to drive around it gets weird, the temp seems to fluctuate. After driving for 10-15 mins and then shutting off truck.. it's real hard to restart. I'm leaning towards the radiator what do you think? I see no signs of leaks from the cooling system anywhere.
Thanks,
Dennis

FastRonald,
One last thought. Could it be the timing? I'm going to check it out tonight... if not it's radiator time.

If your timing was off, it would ping or knock and have a lack of power. If it runs at about the same power level as it had before, I doubt that's it. It could just be that any loose material, rust, scale broke loose after the start up and clogged the fins of the radiator. The bits of crap may not always clog in the same area causing a different situation each time it's driven.

Hi thought I would throw my 2 cents in you could be air bound. First check curiculation, with it at running temp slowly remove the cap and see if anything is moving. Be careful if it starts belching out antifreeze when you start to loosen the cap you probly have air in it. If this happens take t-stat out and fill the raidator untill the antifreeze comes out the t-stat hole then put your t-stat in and finish filling. Another trick us drill a 1/16th hole in the t-stat to let the air out. Hope this helps.
