It idles rough?

It idles rough?
They I get a 83 Ranger with 2.3L. When I got it all the pollution junk had been removed. I have rebuilt the carburetor and have gone through and plugged all the hole that hoses may have gone to.
Here’s my problem. At idle it runs rough, like it wants to die. But if I just give it a little gas it smoothes out. I can go down the hwy at 60 to 65 and it purse. Again come to a stop and its back to being rough. I have check timing. I have put new plug, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I have replaced what hoses that were left with new ones. I was told to take a spray bottle and some water and spray around the intake with the engine on to check for vacuum leeks, I have not done that yet.
Does any body have any other ideas?
