hey fellro

i put that carb on just to fool with it a little bit. the chock was leaking so i switched it for my new choke on that carb i had on, well i started it up and lo and behold it started, just fooling with it is all right now, but it ran alot better then the other one did. when i rev it up it sounds 100% better, but it wont idle for very long, it defintly needs rebuilt, and i think it needs a thick gasket like that one we pried it off of. seems to have a major vacum leak with that little thin gasket i have on there now. just wanted to let you know that. i going to get a rebuild kit for it next week. hopefully when i come down again i will have it on so you can hear what you did for me. thanks again

It's been sitting for some time, and hasn't likley been rebuilt, so it isn't suprising it needs a little help, glad it works so far, hope it fixes the problem. The other definitely wasn't supplying enough fuel, from the looks of the left bank exhaust manifold, it looked like the exhaust was getting pretty hot too. Now you got an updated carb by 9 years...

Running lean makes the manifolds run hot. Ever seen headers glow in the night? kinda cool but scary at the same time...

cast iron will take it better, but the idle mixtures should be reset, but won't have any effect on the road mixture, just idle
