Chevy or ford to tow with?

Well with 365,000 miles my friends 92 F250 NA 7.3 4x4 ext cab lost a wheel bearing. So he went and got man hubs andwheel bearings and such BUT his truck is 50 miles away!! My truck a 78 F250 3.73 trac lok, RC 2wd LB, NP 435, fresh 300CI I6, newer tires load E, newer clutch.GVW 8000LBS. Other friends truck a 88 chevy 6 LUG 2500 with 3.42 open diff, NV 3500 high geared 5 speed. RC, LB 2wd TBI 350 V8 rebuilt 3500 miles ago, NEW clutch, New tires load D,- and RAGGED out. GVW 7200lbs

Speed gear
35mph 1st
65mph 2nd
90mph 3rd
---- 4th
---- 5th
My f250
8mph 1st
17mph 2nd
45mph 3rd
---- 4th
Those are RPM limited speeds!!!!!
This will be on a Bumper pull trailer I cant find a GN right now! It WILL have Trailer brakes
Which will do the overall better?????
PS I have never pulled 4.5 tons on a bumper the most I've done is 7500lbs- while the truck squated 3" it pulled GREAT 0 sway 0 stopping issues and great power

I personally would use the F-250. From what you said about the gear to speed ratio the Ford seems more adequate for the job. Low gearing is ideal especially when towing heavier than normal loads .

what?I'm serious! Plowing is killer on vehicles. Use the truck that you least mind shaving some years off its useful life.
