Engine Serial Number
Can anyone tell me if this is an authinic engine serial number and if so can it be used to find a build date of the engine. This number is located in the spot prepared for the number but is on a white sticker and not stamped as it is supposed to be and no other numbers are visible. [654403-EG045CB]
Thanks for any help or advice. wesran

04 6.0 PSD c/c FICM replaced with 365 miles and the information on the oridginal was nor saved so now have no engine build date and so far have not been able to find one through oasis with the vin# so tried to find the engine serial# to no avail there is nothing on the embossed area disignated for it so now am wondering what I can do? Isn't there some mandate that an engine have a serial#?
I did find this number [r7FEB0409040447] (not sure about the small r but there is a symbol there that ressembles one. this number is located on the flange just below and infront of where the serial# should be. There was a sticker over the area where the serial# should be (# on post above) which I removed to inspect the area.
Am really enjoying the truck which has now developed the drip that don't drop syndrom @ 3500 miles but am not too worried about that after reading about all the others with this problem and will let it run its course. All I need is some numbers to have if needed so will say thanka now for any suggestions or advice. Wes

Have you really been able to reach the area where the serial number is stamped? As near as I can tell, there isn't actually any way to see that location when an engine is installed in a vehicle (duh), unless you get one of those little snaky cameras that the SWAT teams use.
To see exactly where that location is, with an engine not in a truck, look here

Yes you can get to where you can see the half moon erea disignated for the serial# altough it is at an angle so to view it you need a mirror and a flashlight and I have inspected the area very closely but no number or markings of any kind.
The engine needs to be cold when doing this as you have to manuver the mirror up past the exhaust to the turbo tube. Thanks for the concern anyway.

Thanks Frobozz. We are both on the same page. I took some pictures of mine today but don't know how to post them, also pics of the serial number spot although it is through a mirror it is still a good look at the spot. The symbol or small(r) is definitely not a one. If you don't mind me asking where did you get the information on that number? Thanks Wes

Well still have no definite build date but will let that go for the time being. All seems to be going ood but do have some concerns as have developed a drip on the bell housing but never falls so am following the advice have read on other post, will see what happens in afew more miles, have also seemed to have gained some oil and am now waiting on a testing kit from blackstone to see if it is fuel or just the way I am reading it. Have been reading all the posts that I can and have not really had any thing definite to post.
