Hello to all!
First symptom: AC blowing hot, I don't hear the compressor engaging (due to no freon)

Disconnected old dryer/reciever accumulator and could not find orifice tube at firewall (smaller hose connection) so I emplaced the orifice tube there. I replaced expansion valve near top of compressor (from where freon leaked)

Performed vacuum of system and filled with freon.

Is that the correct place for the orifice tube and could it have been left out during my first AC problem back in 2000, where they replaced O-rings and evaporator replacement.

Now the AC is blowing semi-cool air with both rear and front AC on.

Does anyone know of what may be the cause of this deficiency?
Any advice would be appreciated.

 

on my Expy with dual air the orifice is located just inside a fitting in the liquid pipe that runs just under the battery. The fitting is visible just past the battery, firewall side and at the battery box.

If you have added a second orifice tube you are creating a problem. Secondly it sounds as though the expansion valve you are talking about is the high pressure pop off valve. If it blew then the high side pressure was too high, possibly from a bad fan clutch or a restriction in your system. Sounds like you need a professional diagnostic before things get worse. Its only about 35.00 average around here for an AC diagnosis.

Well you have the right pipe, just the wrong location on that pipe. So if you have two orifices installed you can see where that would cause a problem. In other words if you installed and orifice and but didnt remove the old one then you know you have two in the system. Look at your smaller pipe but follow it back to the battery location I described and see if there is another fitting in that pipe. Does yours have dual AC?

Thanks Homerwinzlow, The location was just as you described. It just took a little investigating slightly under and forward of batterybox towards firewall. Thank you again. The old orifice tube was somewhat clogged with fine metal particles- could be compressor going bad, huh? So far it's blowing fairly cold air.

 

Yes, it would appear the compressor is starting to shell out. Better to get it replaced and filter flushed before it gets real bad. Replace the accumulator and orifice as well.
