Yes, they started life as a regular van, then go to an out side source to be converted with windows, seats, bubble top etc. Alot of them are then sold at the dealerships just the same as new ones. The aftermarket stuff is handled with a warranty from the van conversion company through the dealership.
As far as diesel conversion vans, my dad's friend has a 1984 E250 6.9L conversion van with swivel captain seats and plush inside. At 110,000 miles its still very clean and runs great.
On a similar note, My wife and I have been looking for a 30 foot rv but all I have seen at the lots is V10 powered E450 rv's. Why no 7.3L powered?

good question about the rv's
i always thought it was stupid to have a V10 where a diesel should be
if i had something that big an heavy i would want a diesel as a standard option those v10's must get bad milage

Just keep looking, I know they put it in them. Or you may have to order one.

i'm looking for an RV also, preferably with a diesel. check out item #2485005951 on EBAY. it's a '78 RV with a '94 7.3 diesel. it's a custom job because the seller mentions that a new fuel tank is needed for the gas generator. if i do ever get an RV with a diesel, i'm thinking of adding a tank for running WVO (waste vegitable oil).

I am the proud owner of a 1984 Born-Free motor-home on an E-350 chassis with 6.9L diesel, they are pretty rare.

I wish my 1964 F-750 was a diesel!

Diesel RV's

I was told by a dealer that most Class C (Van's) RV's have gas generators. A gas generator is much lighter than a diesel. With this it only reqiures one fuel type.

When I bought my RV, it had no generator at all. I could have added a diesel generator, but opted for a gas generator. I just added an aluminum gas tank meant to be built in to a boat. So I have 3 fuel types, diesel, gas, and propane.

I wouldn't mind a Conversion Van (not full camper) with an IDI diesel in it but so far i haven't been able to find one. A few Powerstrokes though and the prices were fair.

Ive also heard the V10s like eating headgaskets.
If you had a conversion van loaded with people, a camper trailer and supplies going into high altitudes a turbodiesel is even better.

To answer the original post, former neighbor bought a conversion van with a 6.9 years back, I think he had to special order it, but was happy with the fuel economy (ah, years ago diesel was soo much cheaper !)

There is a guy in tulsa, Ok that only deals with vans. I have gone there regurly and seen many diesels in conversion vans. I almost bought a van that was a fully loaded and converted and even had 4x4. He said no one wanted it and only asked $1000 cause he picked it up for nothing at the auction. I was going to some aeronotics school at the time and was completly broke!!!. Could not afford anything or esle I would have bought that thing. He did have it running saying it ran out of fuel at the auction cause the fuel guage was inaccurate causing the low sell value. It ran great. I don't know if it had a turbo, I never thought to look. But yes, there are many out there, just got to find them and they are usually very cheap.
