I'm looking into putting a tonneau cover on my '96 F-150 SB and was wanting to get some opinions from you guys. Right now I have a drop in liner that comes over my bedrails. I was interested in getting a nice soft tonneau cover that can be quickly removed or retracted when I am going to be hauling things and can still be used with my bed liner. I really don't want something that limits my use of the tailgate either and I would like it to seal well. Also, what do you guys do for toolboxes that have tonneau covers. Obviously you cant get an over the rail toolbox so do you get a flush mount box? Thanks.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Access cover so I got on their website and it looks great. Anybody have first hand experience with one here? What are the prices and can you order direct from factory? Do they make them for '96's or just late model stuff? Thanks

I just picked my access limited edition cover up last week. Works awesome... not a drop of water, and it's been raining almost every day since it's been on. Price for a 2000 F250 8ft bed was right around $400. I'm not sure if you can order factory direct... I was looking on ebay and found one for 365 plus 30 shipping. I'm guessing it would be cheaper for the SB for obvious reasons. Lemme know how you make out

 

I'm definitely leaning towards the Access. I've heard lots of good things about them. I guess my only question is the drop in bed liner on my truck now comes all the way up my bed walls and over my bed rails. There is no holes or indentations for me to put the clamps on the bed rail. I was thinkin about cutting holes in the liner everywhere there is a clamp so I can get to the bed rail. How does that sound? Thanks

IMO, i think drop in bedliners are crap . Before my bed cover, I was looking for an excuse to rip it out. After the first rain, I got my reason. The way the tonneau rails sit, the bedliner was stopping them from sliding all the way up against the front of the bed and I got a pretty substantial amount of water stuck in the front corners of that bed liner (no drainage holes.) The next day, I ripped it out and put the cover back on, left the bed high and dry in the next rain storm.

Also, after taking out the bedliner, I had to fix the rust spots it created on my fender wells... And finally, the guy that had the truck before me, must have had a big heavy object in the back and when he slammed on the brakes, it slid forward and bowed the entire front bed rail... didn't realize that till I went to put the cover on. Yet another reason to burn that bed liner

 

Yeah I agree with you on that one. The only reason I was trying to salvage my drop in is because when I bought the truck the guy put it in brand new and its definitely not a cheap one. If I got the Access and ditched the drop in I'd have to get a mat or something like you have. Not something entirely expensive. Also, I'd have to get some rail caps to cover up where my drop in liner scruffed the paint on the rails.

i just ordered soft tonneau from truck expressions. i got a extang platinum for $180.00 including shipping. several of my friends have the same cover and like it just fine. i get mine tomorrow and a hurricane is heading to north carolina. i will see how dry it stays.

 

Thats a nice looking rig you have there King Ranch. I actually just came inside from putting an Access Cover on my truck. I ordered it a couple days ago and had to drive about 70 miles yesterday to go pick it up. Installation was very simple and I'm very impressed by the cover. Works easy, looks great! Ill try to get some pics up here for you guys and see what you think. Thanks

Thats a nice looking cover you got there John, especially for the price. Very nice. I paid $439 for the Access which didnt seem too bad comparing to other places.

thanks, ranger. the extang platinum sells for 285.00 at my local 4x4 shops. im really happy with it. it is my second one. had one on my 92 f150 xlt 4x4.
