Massachusetts is a bozo state!!

First of all how much regulation do we have in this state? The exhaust issue frosted me for weeks. my dad getting harrassed at inspection time over his FM 50. Told him he was 3-4 decibles over the limit for his vechicle. I said screw that....Ordered and installed the Banks Power Pack for my 03' SD V10. Headers, pipes, and muffler....the whole 9 yards. So next I got a tuner to get more HP out of the beast.....was suprised that there was no regulation about that. So i want to get a lift. Not too high, just to have it look tough.....So before I start looking I found the Massachusetts lift law. You cannot lift or lower the suspension more than 2 inches different than stock!!!! How friggin stupid. Got any feedback about this.....Anybody getting flack at inspection time over exhaust and ride height????

I am all set when I get my sticker......Family Ford in Chicopee actually sells and installs Banks kits on Ford Trucks....and they do Inspections......so that problem is solved for me anyways.

Ive dealt with the lift laws before. I am not sure whats listed is correct. From what i was told (And had to adhere to), is that the bottoms of the rocker panels can be no more than 28" off of the ground. Do not take that as the end all answer. You really need to call an inspection station, and see what they have to say.

There is a document I found online that is in PDF format stating all the regulations. I googled "massachusetts lift law" and there was a site that listed by state all the laws.

Hers's the pdf of the mass lift law.

http://www.truckworld.com/How-To-Tec...A_lift_law.pdf

http://www.customtruckshowcase.com/laws/StateLaws.html

I keep a copy of the law in my glovebox. My Superduty with a 6" lift and 36"s IS legal because the state doesn't count fractions of an inch and you have to fail by an inch or more. So read up on the pdf and do the formula. It's not that bad, I haven't gotten hasseled at all so far by the cops and you should be ok gettin a sticker...if you don't go too crazy. I've only heard of people getting crap for 44's and that depends on what town your in too.

Mass sucks but you have to deal with it ! I have been for years, most of the cops are okay with lift kits (every now an then you get a hard ***) and most inspection stations dont care either ask around and you can pretty much find out the ones. I used to put f-700 cabs on a f-350's with 44's back in the early 80"s and that used to aggrivate the hell out of them because those trucks had no height limits and they could'nt do a thing about it. I feel I pay enuff taxes in this state I will drive what I want friggem .

the good thing about mass, is that for trucks older than 1984, there are ZERO emissions rules, no regulations as to what motors you can use, and nothing against your exsaust unless its too loud. so mass isnt all bad.

Good point but everything around these parts from all the salt on the roads rots away
most pre 84 cars and you can scoop them up with a shovel and throw it in the woods. If I didnt own a business in this state I would be outta here.

There are a good amount of junkyards around here, there are two in Salem MA and a nice one in Peabody MA.

There is also one in Lynn MA but it's not as good (they dont let you walk around the yard).

My F-150 is lifted 6" and has 35s. I put my 32" tires on it for inspections. I have only gotten 1 inspection since I've put the lift on (i'm up for a 2nd one right now actually). I was able to pass an inspection at the 3rd place I went to. I told the first guy it was a 4" lift, he said no...the 2nd guy I told him it was a 2.5" lift, said ok about that, but denied me because of my clear turn signals not being factory. Went to another place on 114 in Danvers and he passed me just fine.

My 72 winnebago motorhome got an inspection at a place in Topsfield, the guy literally did not even look at it, just printed a sticker for me. Technically my truck is illegal in about 4-5 ways, lift, tires, no front license plate, loud exhaust, and right now...expired inspection. I've been driving it for about a year and a few months this way, I've been pulled over and talked to by cops about other issues, but I havn't been said anything to about my lift by cops.

There's a great yard in Haverhill (Tony's), and another in Plaistow, NH- just over the border (Brandy Brow). I go often just to 'window shop'. The guys at both yards are all great!
