Bypass the Fuel Tank Selector Valve? on 87' F150

Hi, yesterday after weeks of not running I took the Fuel Tank Selector Valve off of my 87' F150 w/ dual tanks, and disassembled and cleaned it. I reinstalled it and Voila! it started right up. But today the truck died again about 15 miles from here near the mountains. I would like to run up there and bypass the Selector valve and use just the front (or rear) tank for now.

So the question is which lines to I connect to bypass the FTSV?

Thanks alot!

How are you going to connect the two lines? If nothing else, a fuel filter might work to just splice between. You'll need to connect the supply line from one tank to the supply line to the high pressure hose (I'm not sure the positions of the hoses). You'll also need to connect the return line from the fuel rail to the return line back to the tank that you have the supply line coming from. It's sounding like something other than that valve, have you tried pulling the codes?

Im pretty sure its the valve, I cleaned it yesterday and it started and ran fine for two days until it died tonight. I will def pull codes once i get it here. but I just need to know which lines to connect until then so I can drive it home. I will be buying a new valve selector but not until next paycheck (2 weeks) so I need to do this bypass until then.

Mabe its just cause I simply dont understand the fuel lines, so mabe if someone could fill me in I would undertsand it better (eg which line on the valve selector is what and what its purpose is)

thanks alot

Ok, maybe this will help - on the side of the valve with two fittings: one is a supply and one is a return. As long as you hook the returns together, and hook the supply lines together (to and from the same tank) it should work fine. I could figure out which is which if I was lying under the truck, but it's hard to explain over the internet. Here's an example of how you can hook it up: say supply is the line closest to the frame - connect the line on the top left on the back of the valve to the line on the left on the front of the valve (left is drivers side) and top right on the rear to the right on the front. The four lines on the back of the valve go to the fuel tanks - two are supply lines, and two are return lines - one of each to each tank. You just have to match up the supply and return from one tank to the supply and return to and from the engine.
