1970 Ranchero headlight switch
Hello,
Does anyone have a diagram or can easily tell me how to remove the headlight switch assembly from the dash panel? My headlights are not working on my 70 Ranchero GT, I've checked and replaced all fuses, traced the wires, everything looks fine. I would just run them to a toggle switch, but you can't do that here in the county I'm in here in TX. Lights must work off the switch, and that's the last place I can think that I'd be having problems. Thanks! Post here, or email me at jammy_69@hotmail.com. Thanks again for any suggestions!

I has the same problem with my '70. It turned out to be the floor mounted dimmer switch had shorted out. I found that out AFTER I replaced the dash mounted light switch. I bought the dimmer switch & the headlight switch at a local autoparts place for about $7 each.
The cable for the parking brake was right next to the dimmer switch & had rubbed thru the wires.

Removing the headlight switch is a bit tricky, you have to push a tab up behind the dash (on the switch housing) to release the ****. Once ya pull that out it says in the manual that ya have to use a *special tool* to remove the bezel thing so the switch fall out the back of the dash. Once ya have the **** removed you can see that the only special tool needed is a large philips....

ok, just got the old one out from under the seat.....
The **** realse thing is in the middle, on the bottom of the switch. Small spring loaded doodad a bit les than 1/4in high. Just push it in & pull the **** out.
