Question 93 Ford 460 Jamboree C "wont idle"

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=4 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR class=extra_light_bg><TD class=plain_text>93 Ford 460 Jamboree C "wont idle"</TD><TD noWrap>Nickntyme</TD><TD noWrap>6-13-04 </TD></TR><TR class=extra_light_bg><TD colSpan=3>We have only a hundred or so miles on our new fuel pump, installed last year at Capistrano Ford. Yesterday the MH started up fine pulled it in the driveway for cleaning etc....got in it to move it last night and the thing turns over easily, but sounds flooded and will not hold an idle. It dies right away. As long as we hold the key ( in the forward, starting position) it will stay running, but when we let go of the key it dies right away. We checked the fuel reset button on the inside panel and it is still depressed, so we eliminated that. We are clueless.....Please any suggestions would be helpful. We have about 75K miles on the vehicle. Thank you kindly.

Ur in luck.

Keep in mind that the problem i was having was on a 84 dodge 318 but it had the same symptoms.
Somewhere in your engine compartment is the ballast resistor for you coil. It allows only 9 volts to your coil to keep everything alive longer. Either the connector fell off, or its burnt out but it needs to be fixed. The reason it runs in the cranking position is because there is a bypass wire when the engine is cranking. This allows as much power to get to the coil as possible when the starter is sucking most of the battery juice.
An easy way to make sure of this is to connect a jumper wire from your positive battery post to the positive side of the coil. (the side not going to the distributer). crank the engine over and the engine should stay normally running.
EFI complicates things alittle bit so look in your chilton manual.
