Parking Brake Adjustment on 2000 Expedition
Hi. I have a 2000 XLT expedition. Does not have air ride suspension. I noticed that I have to push the Parking brake further down in order for it to work. Does anyone know how to adjust the parking brake. I looked in the Chilton Manual and it says its self adjusting. Dealer told me that you can manually adjust it. They weren't helpful in telling me how to do it.

The vehicle has disc brakes in the rear, but does utilize a DIH (Drum In Hat) parking brake. The cables no longer have a provision for taking up cable slack. This is done automatically in the pedal assembly. However, the DIH brake still has an adjusting screw for taking up clearance.
I'm going to talk in generalities, as for the life of me I can't remember exactly with your version. There usually is a rubber plug in the backing plate of the DIH. When you pull it out, you will have access to the adjustment screw. Usually only a few notches have to be turned, but you want to expand the shoes out so there is close contact, but no major drag on the wheel. To do that, the rear wheels should be off the ground and the vehicle in neutral. Under this situation, it's best to have a wheel chock or block on both sides of the front wheel so the vehicle does not roll. If you go too far, just back the screw the opposite way.

IT WILL NOT HOLD THE DEALER SAID PUT A BRICK UNDER THE WHEEL
they are too small to hold the weight of the vehicle
the cable is the problem -it stretches out
the only thing to do is shortern the link under the
drivers door but then they drag its a very bad design
