97 Ford f-250 Diesel problems

I have a friend with this truck that just seems to have a mind of its own. SOmedays it runs good others it doesn't have enough power to get out of its own way. The ford dealership and the local transmission shop haven't found anything wrong with the transmission or engine. The truck is off warranty and would like to find a simple fix rather than putting a new computer; if that is indeed the problem. Lately he has been blowing fuses also. Has anyone out there had any troubles similar to this?? What could it be and how can you fix it?? THe computer says there is nothing wrong.

you might have the alternator checked to see if it is producing voltage spikes, also pulling fuse #9 will reset the computer, and I recommend doing this every now and then, to allow the computer to "re-boot" and adjust to current engine condition.

Not true. The PCM in these trucks don't learn you driving habits like the newer ones
