Head Torque for 4.2

I am looking for the proper torque for the heads on 4.2 V-6's, a friend of mine has had one rebuilt, and doesnt know the torque specs.... found the specs but the book I found listed the head bolt torque at 36 ft-lbs... that seems awful light. What do you guys think?

Thanks for any help.
Tim

Sorry. i hate to leave you hanging with no replies...but I really have no idea. I would suggest going to your local library and checking out a Chilton or Hayes if they have one. Most do. Sorry I am not much help...

torque specs: FT-lbs unless otherwise indicated
cylinder head bolts (oiled)
step 1...............................168 in-lbs
step 2...............................29
step 3...............................36
caution: when following the torque sequence for the V-6 engine, at step 4 do not loosen all the bolts at the same time or the gasket will not seal properly. loosen the first bolt in the sequence, tighten it to final torque (steps 5 and 6) then go to the next bolt in the sequence, loosening and tightening the bolts untill the sequence is completed.
step 4..............................loosen 3 turns ( do not loosen all bolts here. follow caution)
step 5
long bolts..................30 to 36
short bolts.................15 to 22
step 6(all bolts).................tighten an additional 175 to 185 degrees

get yourself a haynes manual! as i was told to do recently.....they are invaluable, and interesting
