Flathead V-8 parts identification
I was just wondering about some flathead parts I have. I have 2 different late 49-53 timing covers. Both are aluminum. One is more compact and rounded while the other has the centre a really big circle and more like sharp edges. That one doesn't have any part numbers on it. I also have 2 49-53 intake manifolds. One of them has been stamped 2 and has a plug under the vacumn port while the other is stamped 1 and doesn't have a plug. I'll have pictures posted later on. I'm just interested in what years they were used and models.

Nathan,
Re: timing covers - The smooth cover is typical Ford/Merc for the later dist with a longer shaft. The cover has a support hole for the extra shank length to fit into. The 'green' cover with the sharp edges, I'd guess is aftermarket??? ...... or Ford was really dipping into the bottom of the barrel for parts toward the end of the run. It too is for a later distributor - you can see the indent where the collar is for the longer shaft.
Re" intakes - they're the same, just different, right? I have one of the 'plugged' intakes that came off a 52/53 EAB engine. I replaced the plug with a nipple and use that port for my pcv hose. I think it's typical of larger truck intakes that needed additional ports for vac - brakes, etc. The other was likely pickup/car intake of the same vintage.
