Harmonic balancer....
I am trying to troubleshoot this for my sister who is 600 miles away, so i cant run out and check anything. But here goes.
My dad told me he thinks the harmonic balancer has gone bad. What exactly is it, how much is it, and how hard is it to replace.
It was rattling, but she never fot it fixed, and now the crankshaft pulley just stopped spinning.
It is on a 93 2.3 liter engine.
Any help is appriciated.

the vibration damper is located right behind the crank pulley, its job is more or less that, dampening vibrations,on some engines it is even used to help balance out the crankshaft.to change one is really not that hard if you have the correct tools,a dampener puller to pull it off the crankshaft.although it is really not that hard to change, you might want to have a shop do it,because they will have the proper tools, she should get this done before it comes off on its own,or destroys the front crank seal.

she has to get it fixed now because the pulleys stopped spinning. If she tried to drive it now, it would overheat, the battery would die, and it would be hard to steer. Im not sure exactly what is wrong with it since i havent had a chance to look at it. Anyways she is having a shop repair it, but thanks for your help.
