wtb: 74 - 77 pick up

Just wondering if anyone has, or knows of a truck to buy. Basically im looking for a 74 through 77 half ton in decent shape (driveable and able to be insured without too much work/money), for under $1000. Preferably with a 300i6 or 302 and manual transmission.

In last weeks Bargain finder there was a 78 f150 for $600. Bodywise some surface rust but no holes, interior was in nice shape as well. Overall it looked to be well taken care of andin amazing shape for the year. However, the tranny was shot and i was told by the owner that the 302 was also on its last legs. I would have taken it but i havent got anywhere to swap the powertrain.

Anyways, if anyones got any leads please email me at

awatchman@hotmail.com

thanks,

Just moved back to Calgary,

I looked at a 76 f100 with a 302 4speed today. Pretty decent shape, and not much rust(one major hole through the passenger side fender just ahead of the door). Have to get back there tommorrow and take it for a drive and if all goes well i'll likely buy it.

Last august I bought beat up 76 f100 with the 300i6 and 3 on the tree. The parking brake cable was siezed and the compression so shot that when parked and left in first it would roll away on even the slightest incline. The exhaust rusted out before the muffler and so the thing sounded like a tractor. The insurance ran out at the end of last year and they wouldnt renew it unless i replaced the windshield, exhaust, both leaf springs, and some other minor things. I figured it wasn't worth it so I sold it to the wreckers for $150 where they now use it as a yard truck. I sincerely regret getting rid of that truck, it was in hindsight the best vehicle i've ever owned.

IF your still looking for a truck in Calgary I looked at one that i think is a great deal the other day. Its in the Bargain Finder and its a '78 F150 2wd. The guy is asking 2500 but he has a list and reciepts for 4600$ put into it. Its a 460 auto and the engine and transmission are super clean and in magnificent shape. Probably get better mileage than a poorly maintained 302. The interior is mint and it has awesome a/c. 3.50 ratio 9". The body has rust in all the usual places but the truck runs and drives awesome. I woulda bought it but i ended up buyin a '75 F100 that has a mint body and drivetrain but i paid for it. I can give you the number if your still interested.

Thanks for keeping your eyes open, but money's kinda tight right now. I ended up buying a '73 f100 a couple weeks ago. Nothing special but worth what i paid for it. Anyways If the new job im looking at pans out i hope to get something a little better latter this year.

Oh, went down to okotoks on saturday and took advantage of the $20 oil change at the ford dealer. On the way back drove through black diamond. At the gas station on the way out of town(turner valley side) theres a lifted 79 150 4x4 short box for sale. Beat up, crappy blaze orange paint, fake hood scoop, bad job riggin up bucket seats, but anyone looking for a short box might be interested.

anyways thanks again.

I looked at a 78 short box 4x4 for $6900 in the bargain finder last week. It doesnt have any major rust but its got surface rust all over and the back 1/4 is wrinkled and the bumper is smashed into it. I cant see paying this much just cause its a short box, i like the long box just as good. I'll have to stop and check that one out. How much were they asking for it?
