what does it have to do with or where is it located? never heard of a swing brg but sometimes people use a slang term instead of the "propper" ford term.

My motorhome has a carrier bearing.which is a bearing mounted
on the cross member between the 2 piece drive shaft.
never heard it called a swing bearing though

I've never heard of anything on a pickup called a swing bearing either. So, I searched the 'net for "swing bearing" and found a lot of hits- but none were automobile/truck related. Mostly crane, dozer, front-end loaders, and a few motorcycle/atv sites.

 

Maybe I'm just older or maybe it's locale (SE Texas). I started in the auto parts business back in the 60's.

Swing bearing was commonly used to refer to the driveshaft support bearing or carrier bearing. Carrier bearing may be a misnomer since carrier bearing normally refers to the side bearings in a differential.

If the bearing you're referring to is the the bearing that supports a two piece drive shaft, here in Saskatchewan, Canada, we refer to it as a center bearing. I used to have to change these things on my '89 F250HD SC LB 4X4 like oil. Any mud + water and it would be shot, got really annoying at $50-60 a pop.

Never heard of it referred to as a swing bearing, so I may be way off base.

Hey waxy ! were you using oem or aftermarket replacements!
reason i ask is the spicer aftermarkets are sealed an have a grease fitting on them now!
Yea ! carrier or center bearings is problably what this guy is talking about

I started out buying the cheapies, eventually I started buying the Spicers and they'd last about twice as long. Fortunately that's not my headache anymore!
