DODGE RAM SRT-10 SETS SPEED RECORD FOR PICKUP
TRUCK
The Ford SVT F-150 Lightning was proclaimed the world’s fastest production pickup truck
last July, but it’s reign came to an end yesterday. That distinction now belongs to the
Dodge Ram SRT-10, which zoomed to an average speed of more than 154 mph—about
7 mph faster than the F-150’s time—during two test runs monitored by Guinness World
Records and the Sports Car Club of America.
The Ram SRT is powered by the same 500-hp, 8.3-liter V-10 engine that Dodge uses
in its Viper sports car. The F-150 Lightning features a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 that
generates 380 hp. Both vehicles sprint from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
The new Ram record was set on a 4.7-mile track at Chrysler’s Proving Grounds in
Chelsea, Mich. NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan piloted the vehicle. Last year, he won
six NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races in a Ram, and he will make his debut in the
Nextel Cup series at the Daytona 500 later this month.
The record-setting SRT wasn’t modified for additional power or enhanced aerody-namics,
according to Chrysler. Per Guinness rules, it was clocked over a “flying kilome-ter”
on two runs in opposite directions made within an hour of each other. Supplied and
operated by a third party, the timing equipment was certified to within 1/1000th of a
second. The speed of each run was determined using sensors at the start and finish of
the measured kilometer.

okay here. so we got a 8.3 litre raceing engine to a normal 32 valve truck engine.
I will drive a lighting over that any day.
Pluss lightnings are slick looking and all black like my nite.
the other issue.
the last time dodge put the viper engine in a truck, it got about 3 mpg.
lightining gets around 12-20 dosn't it?
