5.4 dual exhaust?

I was thinking about going the whole 9 yards and getting a true dual setup. High flow cats, mufflers, and big ol' tips. I'm thinking about 2.5 or 2.25 pipes from the manifolds to the tail pipes.
I would like opinions on this set up. I need to know price ranges and most importantly, results. Is it worth it? I miss the deep rumble of a V8 from my old Fords. But I also want performance.
I presently have the Gibson Sweptdide cat back. I feel like a real sucker every time I think about the 500 bucks I spent on that thing and I don't want to sink more hard earned dollars into a lost idea. Although, I have actually gotten compliments on the Gibson. I was on a job site the other day when I finally had a chance to park closer to the building. Well I feathered the gas enough to make heads turn. One guy said he thought it was a nice truck and then he heard it and thought a race car was bearing down on him. I laughed when he asked me if I had a 460 in it. I told him it is just the lil' 330. Nevertheless, he was impressed with the sound.
So, if anyone's got a dual exhaust, I'd like all the details. Price, plumbing it in, parts used, and results. Thanks for your help.

5.4 dual exhaust?

2002 5.4 Crew Cab

I have "dual exhaust", but not like you are looking for.

I have a Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow one in two out behind the stock cat. 2 1/4" pipes with two 3 1/2" (18"?) angled out behind the rear wheels. Cost was about $200.

Sounds good from the outside, but I'm not 100% happy with the sound inside. I'd get the non Delta Flow if I did it over again. I thought it would help the gs mileage a lot, but it it didn't very much if any.

I had a 95 Bronco 351 and I put on a 40 Series non Delta Flow and I went from getting about 425 miles to a tank to about 475.

5.4 dual exhaust?

You prolly won't notice any major gains by switching to dual exhaust but if you want to play then I'd look at what Spintech is putting out. The are making a kit for the F150's that use a X pipe, dual mufflers etc. I know the F250 is way different than a F150 exhaust but the same set-up could be used. If you have any emmisions testing then you may not want to tamper with the stock cat. I'd spend that money on a set of headers. Couldn't hurt.

Post 5.4 dual exhaust?

I am sick of hearing excuses on this subject. Everyone I ask about getting dual exhaust gives me the ole "you won't see much gain in performance". It's BS. You can't beat true dual exhaust for the look, sound and power.

Nice truck, Warmdye. Beeeeeeeeautiful color.
Have you thought about doing the acetone trick on the emblems? I've gotten quite a few compliments on mine. It looks real nice on the white.
Thanks for the replies. Gonna give this some thought. I'm also thinking about doing an electric fan, so I think that may come first. But keep those posts acomin'.

Care to elaborate on the acetone trick? I am new to the superduty world. I just bought a '99 F250. Also, what advantage does the superchip give to a 5.4L? Like I said, I am new to this, so bear with me

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jul-02 AT 10:23 AM (EST)]Ya, I've been thinking about doing the acetone thing. Does it erase the red XL? Let me know what you do about your electric fan.

5.4 dual exhaust?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Jul-02 AT 11:02 PM (EST)]I'll make a new post for the acetone trick. I'll try to get pics soon, as well.

Oh, and the Superchip. IMHO, it is the BEST bang for the buck mod I have seen. Better than the intake, better than the exhaust. Only drawback, requires the use of high octane. I use 93 octane year round. But the benefits are astounding.
The engine runs smoother, quieter, easier, and revs like silk. It was a night and day difference. With my 5spd manual, the rpms can go up to 5500 or so, no problem. Not that I take it there often. I usually consider 3500 high. But when you feel that constant pulling power through the whole gear, you just say "Damn" or "Wow". I've had mine since February and I'm still saying it.
But remember, the '99 had 235 h.p. and the years after have 260. The chip will produce 10 - 15 percent hp and tq. So the more you start off with, the more you'll gain. It works, basically, by advancing the spark which makes it run off of higher octane. Since our trucks have no distributor, it's all controlled by computer.
Once I had the chip in, I kicked myself for not getting it sooner. Now I can't imagine driving without it.
