Post removal of front brake rotors '97 f250 4x4

I need help getting the rotors off. There is a lock nut that is a circle with a notch cut to the inside of it and I can not figure out how to get it off... Any suggestions welcome... Thanks

Welcome!! Mtbiker...what do you ride?

On to your question:
Is it a nut or a lock washer (holes around it where pin from nut fits?
If it's the washer, I believe it just slides out or off the nut.

If I rember correctly, there are 2 nuts with the washer in between.
First nut comes off then you slide the washer out, then you can get to the second lock nut.
Carefull putting them back together, the washer needs to slide on the pin just right.

Hope this helps..if not Im sure someone else will be along to correct me.

You need a special tool to take the hub nuts off. It looks like a socket and fits on a 1/2" drive socket but has four square pins extending on the outside of it. They come in two sizes, one for the heavy duty/super duty trucks and a smaller one for half-tons.

Previous post is correct in that you remove the outer nut, then the locking washer, then the inner nut. The same tool is used for both the outer and inner nut, and the washer just slides off.

Once the nuts have been removed, the hub slides off (note that the inner bearing will come out also). To change the rotor from this point requires that the lug bolts be pressed out (I used a hammer and large punch to knock them out). The new rotor is then put on and the lug bolts pressed back in. Make sure that the lug bolts are pressed back in all the way, or you may have a problem with them spinning in the hole when the lug nuts are tightened up.

Hope this helps.
