351 vs 350
Witch is a better engin Ford 351 or Chevy 350 I belive the numbers for the 351 EFI are 210 and 335 and the 350 is 200 and 315 Witch one is faster witch pulls harder [has more power] witch will tow better. Its been along time since ive driven a 351 I remember it as a pretty powrful engin as a company truck Im stuck with a 1993 Chevy 1500 with a 350 its an ok truck but the reason Im asking why is becus I have a chance to buy a 1996 F-150 Extended Cab with a 351 and only 15,000 miles it cost $10,000 What are your personal Experinces with both engins. I know thay both have alot running for them but im just curious......

About a year ago on a mustang site I visit daily there was a new memeber that started up a topic on which motor was better, the 351W or the 350 chevy. I know your looking for numbers but I thought I would share this. He was looking for engineering reasons why one would be better than the other.
It turns out the 351W is a better design. He was a writer from a boat magazine and was writing an article on the two motors. He also admitted that he was a chevy man but the ford motor was better. I wish I had the article.

351W is better built with larger main and rod bearings. It also has a taller deck hieght which will help it live longer. Also if you ever notice the chevy heads have two exhaust valves right next to each other in the center of the head E-I-I-E-E-I-I-E, where as the all fords go I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E. The heat is better distributed thru the Ford Heads than Chevy Heads.

Ford definatly has the better design, engineering wise I just wished they did like chev and not have so much variation in the different engine 351w, 351c, 351m - windsor, 385 series, y-block, modified, FE...
Right or wrong the fact that parts from a 350 will fit a 454 has helped push the chevy into the head of aftermarket engine building.

I would jump for the 96 just because its newer, Ext Cab, and all that. However, what are you going to do? If you're going to leave it stock, the Ford would be better. If you have a very limited budget to mod with...your current vehicle may be better to keep and mod. If you expect to mod and mod alot, you can extract more power from a 351...but again with more money involved. Also the 351 has better design as mentioned. I'd say Go for the Ford if it is reasonable.
Every time at work the register says 3.51 I concider it a good omen . Even got a few 4.60 and 4.27's runing around too...

your on a FORD site, what kind of an answer do you expect to get?
btw, both engines had 210HP but the ford had the chevy beat slightly in torque, 315-325 Ford vs 310 chevy. This is comparing Fords mid 90's EFI to Chevy mid 90's TBI. They both are good engines. As far as a camshaft twisting and throwing off timing......there is alot more to timing than that.
