87 302..Smog, Exhaust holes in back of heads

I have 87 302 5.0...I took all the smog stuff off...in the back of the heads there was a exhuast toob coming from each head ..I took those off,cut the toob then welded it together...now i have a leek from one side..My ? is does anyone know the best way to fix this...can't i just take a pipe threaded bolt and plug it with that ...and if so does anyone know what sizt it is? and I can't find it at the ford dealership..

Thanks Tattoo Matt

Stop by any good head and block shop and ask them. I don't know the exact name of it but it will thread in almost like a helicoil to block the hole and will have threads on the inside to bolt your accessories in. They should know what you are talking about and if you ask real nice will probably just give you a couple

I think he means the accessories on the front. But that won't be necessary since your working on the rear of the heads.

He is right about going to a machine shop though. You can also go to your local dealer and get them. They are called thermactor port plugs, they only cost a couple bucks.

Trick Flow makes a plug for their heads but works for factory iron as well.

Check here.

What I meant was, since the heads are reversible from side to side you are pluging the holes used to bolt on your alternator or power-steering pump they are just on the back side of the engine
