1978 F250 Long bed value
Hello all, great forum for Ford Truck Lovers, very helpful. I must part with my 1978 F-250, all original motor/tranny. Motor is at 157k and is running weak. Starts right up but I do not have the resources to troubleshoot it fully. (Bought an Expedition) so my question is, what do you think an as is value is of this rig. Body is straight, tranny is good. 7 inch lift, 3" body, 4" suspension.
I may put her in the paper asking for a trade for a aluminum fishing boat hull or whatever in trade...but what is she worth. Quite restorable, interior is good. I will take a pic and upload.

Wow, thats an awesome truck. I can't believe you are getting rid of it.
so sad.
KBB has a value and thats what a mod will tell you.
Right now its worth about 6500, to the right person. I wish I could afford it.
You can place it in the classifieds here, and you will reach a wide array of people, and its free.
For what its worth, i hope it doesn't sell.

Thanks Matt,
My wife and I are still hedging on selling it, we have 3 4x4's now
and want a boat. But there is something about that year, grill style, etc, that make it a tough looking truck. 6500? Where in kbb can i get a value for it online? The kbb site only goes back so far. Is there an online retail value site i am missing? Thanks.

Check the stickies at the top of the page, they have a link to the classic KBB site. They give prices back to 1928, or something like that.
Yours will come back saying its worth 1500-2000. It doesn't know you have a professional paint job, a lift kit, good tires, etc. The only thing detracting from the value is the 351M. While its a good motor, the efficiency is **** poor at best unless you make a cam and t-chain upgrade.

you can look at the blue book all you want, but a better indicator might be similar trucks in your local paper, try getting a 2 week old copy and calling some sellers to see what prices they actually got.
different areas have different markets
I know you've put a lot into it, but $6500 seems a little optomistic
for a truck that needs an engine

I totally agree. Matt came up with 6500 as a price I believe as fully functional rig. It does need work and going rate around here seems 2500-3500.
Ok lets look at this factor then, what would it cost to have the exisiting motor rebuilt and what would that add to the value vs selling as is.

I hope some day my truck looks that good. If it was me, I'd sell the Expy and fix the motor.
In my area, I think that truck would sell for $2500 to $3500, but if it were mine I'd ask $6000 to avoid selling it. I have had people ask if I was interested in selling mine. (79 F250 Super Cab 4X4 w/ 460) I say shure, $10,000 and its yours..... I still own it!
