The most common is the regular 5.4L. Check your vin # It should have a "L" in it for the engine code.

CNG- Compressed Natural Gas
Flex- Flex fuel CNG/ LPG or regular unleaded (the engine is designed with the capability to take one or the other)

Either one of these will have stickers in various locations (door jamb, fuel filler door).

The only trucks that came with the flex fuel or CNG optioned 5.4 was the 7700 GVWR F150s. These are usually fleet vehicles. Your Supercrew has the 5.4L unleaded gas version.. or as you put it "5.4 v8 sohc 16v F1 engine."

Just read thru this site. You will find all of the good and bad things about it. Just keep in mind, the horror stories that you read about in these forums only describe a small % of the vehicles out there so don't be scared away from your truck.

I thought that the Flex Fuel 5.4L was supposed to run on E85 or Regular gas, and not LPG-CNG?

Maybe I'm just confusing it with my wifes Taurus with the Flex Fuel 3.0l that can run on E-85 or regular gas.

You know Super, I think you're right. What's weird, though, is the option sheet I'm looking at doesn't say a thing about the flex fuel option, only a CNG/Gas or an LPG/Gas and they were optional (meaning: could be ordered?) in all F150s in 2002 and 2003. I'm thinking there was a detuned 5.4 Flex version that a lower rated hp/torque than the "Z" code or "L" coded engines.

I'll look it up at the Ford Fleet sales site (but it only goes back to 2000) and look around.... may be I'll pull up some info.
