Installing a Tach on a 89 F250 w/460 (where to wire the pick-up)
Can anyone help me, I want to install a tach in my 89 F250 that has a 460 and 4WD. My question is which wire on the coil do I hook the tach's pick-up to? Coming from the coil there are two dark green/w yellow strip wires that I think are the correct ones but am not sure since my Chilton's manual doesn't contain a good wiring diagram of the coil.
Also, is there anyway to wire into the harness under the dash or am I out of luck since my truck came w/o a tach (there might not be a pick-up already wired to the coil?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't stand not
having a tach on a manual vehicle
Thanks,

Yeah, it should be the green with yellow stripe. One of the green wires goes to the distributor and the other is shown passing through a 1.8k resistor on the way to the tach. I'd guess the resistor is only for ford's tach, and should not be needed for an aftermarket one. Got this our of a Haynes manual.
