The other night, while driving all the instrument lights went out on my 96 Windstar. Flicking the headlight switch on and off made them come on for about 1 min., they blinked, and then went out for good. I checked out the fuses, they looked and tested OK. Tried a new headlight switch, still no lights. Tried a used dimmer switch from a junkyard, still no lights. I have power going to the dimmer switch all the time at terminals 1 & 2, and power to #3 when the headlight switch is turned on. So I guess that eliminates a fuse problem and the headlight switch possibility. Does anyone have any ideas? I probably should try a new dimmer switch, as I don't have proof that the used one was any good.

You should be getting power to pin 5 if the switch is working..Light blue and red

 

Thanks, Homer. I'll give that a try. I saw that same solution for the same problem that someone was having with a 96 Ranger. I thought that the wiring schematics might be similar. Let you know how I made out.
