Is there a way to reset the check engine light ?
I had Autozone read the code off my computer and it came up with:
P1443 Evaporative purge flow sensor fault.
Anyone knows where this sensor is located ? I was expecting to find it on the Evaporative canister but I can't seem to find it in the chilton book.
Any help with the ford part number would also be greatly appriciated.
Thanks,
zoti

Thanks Ken.
I think I have identified the Valve and sensor. The manual did say that the evaporator canister is located next to the radiator and under the battery. From it there were to lines coming out. One had 2 components attached to it. The other, which goes to the gas tank had nothing on it. Out of the 2 components one had 3 wires going into it and the other had only 2. The one with the 2 wires is the valve (I believe). So the other should be the sensor. It's weird that the Chilton book did not mention any of them on the illustration they had of the engine compartment. They did mention them in writing though but it took me a while to find them out.
As to what I have done so far:
I have taken them both out. The sensor and the 2 hoses that connect to it seem to be rather new. I have most of the service records from the previous owner so I'm going to take a look to see if the replacement is mentioned. The valve and the hose that goes from it to the canister seem to be the original parts that were installed at the factory. I have taken the whole thing out. Tapped it a bit and reconnected it all back. I've reset the light again so we'll see if that helps. If the light comes on again I will replace both the valve and that piece of hose.
What I would like to ask you is if you could confirm my guess about the different parts. I would also appreciate it if you could point me to a place where I could find part numbers (The one for the sensor is - F57E-14A606-BA). Also, Do you think the hose is a special hose ? It has a 90 degree bend at the connection to the canister. Can I use a different hose ? What kind ?
Thanks,
zoti

I looked up the code in 2000 manual and it lists clogged hoses or stuck valve for the p1443. I will get back to you tonight on the part ID. You could try partsvoice.com. I would replace it with the same type, parts store should be able to get you the right stuff.

More info.
I checked the hoses. They all seem to be OK. Even the one from the canister to the purge control valve. It's a bit dry but doesn't have any leaks.
I checked the voltage to the valve when the ignition is on. Shows 12V solid. I checked the valve itself with an external power supply. Works fine. Resistence on the valve was between 30-90ohm. As specified.
I checked the power to the purge flow sensor. 12V solid. I also checked the 5v current from the PCM. It's fine.
The sensor itself looked to be quite new so I checked the papers I got from the previous owner and found out that it was replaced 6 months ago. I tried to blow some air into it while measuring the resistence. It didn't change from 40ohm. I think this is the sorce of the proble. I will try to replace it tomorrow but I'm having trouble finding the right part. I have the part number off the one that is in the truck but I can't match it to anything on Motorcraft's website.
I'll let you know how it went tomorrow.
