Does anyone have any info on this truck or can point me in the direction of some info for it. I am looking at purchasing one locally, but all I know about them is that they are a theme truck that Ford produced that year. Would like to learn as much as possible. Thanks in advance.

 

If I remember correctly, the Big Foot trucks came from the show room with either 33" or 35" tires w/ lift kit already installed.
But some accidents occurred and people blamed Ford and their lawyers advised them to sue Ford Motor Co.... So they had a massive recall for all the Big Foot trucks. While they were in the shop they uninstalled the lift kit and put them back to stock specs.

Please don't take this as FACT. It's just what I remember and what I heard. Hope this helps alittle.

My grandmother has an '87 ford ranger bigfoot cruiser. She got it a few years back, like five, and its lasted pretty well. I'm only sixteen but I've been behind the wheel of everything from tractors to big rigs and I must say that that little ranger is my favorite thing to drive. I don't know much technical stuff about it besides that she got it with 15 inch wheels, which I believe are stock, a chrome roll bar with kc fog lights, and a 2.9 liter v6 under the hood. It gets pretty good gas mileage and is really powerful for its size. I absolutely love it. I'm not saying it'll haul a huge trailer or anything but I was doing donuts dirt really easily. One downfall I must admit though, and this might just be because of damage we caused to it, It tends to stick in low range. It usually kicks out after a while but my grandma had it on the highway and it overheated and caught on fire before it did. Once again though, that might just be because we don't exactly keep it in the garage on snowy nights. We redid the engine since though and it plows through any task it needs to. All in all its a great truck.

 

I worked at a Ford prototype shop in the 80's and saw those truck come in for the recall. If I remember, they had a warn winch and bumper on the front, a rear chrome bumper, a chrome roll bar with lights and larger tires (no lift kit) and decal kit that said Big foot Cruiser and we had to take all that suff off except the decals. I had some pictures of these trucks before the we pulled the good parts. There were not very many made and some may have escaped the recall, but I have never seen another one after that.

 

I've never even heard of a Big Foot Cruiser. Is it an F150 or a Ranger?

That's the strip kit, I would say that Ranger is legit. Have you ever seen a Ranger GT, it had a body cladding package and I thought it was pretty cool. They only made a few of the GT's I think in 87 and 88

 

Ranger GT? That's so cool. Anyone have any pictures? I tried Wikipidia and Google but I can't get any information or pictures.

 

I remember the Ranger GT's (am pretty sure that they were '88 model only.) I was working for a large Ford dealer at the time and they ordered 2 in. One red shortbox stick and one white longbox auto (seemed like a silly combo to me at the time). They had a full front bumper cover with integrated air dam and fairly tall ground effects cladding (like 8-10 inches) that ran the length of the truck. Bumper was body color for sure, think the grill was too. Think the rear was a black double tube I think but don't recall for sure. These were std cab trucks (not sure if available as a supercab..don't think so) and they had the STX nicer bucket seats in them too as I recall. Mechanically, as I recall, they were standard Ranger 2WD (not sure if were available as a 4WD, but those 2 were 2WD for sure. V6 (part of package?), standard (normally optional) aluminum wheels, white letter tires, etc.

 

Awhile back there was a bigfoot ranger around here with a roll bar and rear window that slid all the way down, instead of just the little slider glass. That and had bigfoot decals and stripes on the sides.

 

Sounds like a sweet looking little pickup. I really like the looks of the older rangers though. I think they look best lifted on fat mudders, but you can't beat a good looking truck either way. I like ground affects though. Really makes a truck look smoothed out and lowered, but doesn't hurt your hauling capacity.
