I have an issue with the horn and the cruise control, I have checked both fuse compartments. I also have an issue with my 4x4 not engaging. The buttons for the shift on the fly 4wd will not engage the 4wd. I have also checked the fuses in the dash and engine compartment. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

Also my owners manual "Fuse Section" lists the Horn and Cruise on the same circuit. The Horn has a rely in the engine compartment, but I do not believe that this course effect the cruise control?

No Air bag light is not on or blinking.

 

I have the same problem that he's got except my airbag light is on. My fuses are fine. Can anybody help? Took it to a dealer and they want like 500 to even touch it, claimed a ring or something is broken inside the steering column but they didn't take it apart. I'm not sure they are right as this is a backwoods place and dealer service here is crummy at all places. Any help would be most appreciated as that is my #1 complaint about the truck. They are referring to the Airbag Clockspring , Its the connection from the controls on the steering wheel to the vehicle electrical circuits . SRS / Airbag work should not be attempted by anyone other than someone trained to deal with them , thats a large part of the cost of the repair . Most reputable body shops can repair them , their labor costs may be less than the dealer . Its likely you will get repair info here to replace it but remember an airbag is a very damgerous piece of equipment , even a stray static charge can set one off .

 

ok. If others think it may be the problem then I'll go w/ them. I just didn't want them to charge the 500 and then say "well it's something else, we need more money to do it". Dealers around here, all makes, are known for bait and switch type of repair or guess and see.

 

i had a 1994 ford f150 4x4 with the shifter on the floor to the 4wd, i noticed the reason why my horn and cruise didn't work was the person that had owned the truck before me went over 100 mph in the truck and with talking with some other ford friends they say if you go over 100 your cruise won't work , also if you can watch out for the airbag normally the light will stay on take it to a dealer it will cost you about 150 dollars to fix, but well worth it. in this truck before my brother totalled it i had replaced the engine, transmission and everything under the hood , so if yu have any questions just ask.

 

Is there some way to reset it because I'm pretty sure I've busted 100 in it. It however didn't work when I bought it and I doubt grandpa drove that fast, is possibble somebody else was doing it though, just not me at that time.

 

I had the same problem a few years ago, my trailer wires werent grounded correctly. Do you Pull a trailer with lights ??????

You didn't say whether any master cylinder work has been done on your truck. There is a little plunger switch above the brake peddle that controls disengagement of the cruise control when the brake is applied. (There is another switch directly in alignment with the master cylinder rod for the brake lights.) The plunger switch I'm talking about is above the brake light switch and has a white (on my '88)plastic pin that rests on the brake peddle arm. If it isn't completely compressed in, the cruise control won't engage. It's worth a look.
However, a real contender is that the power for the cruise control and horn both come from a 30 amp fuse that also powers the cigarette lighter (again, on my '88). It's labled #16 on my truck. Good luck!

 

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Dec-01 AT 02:30 PM (EST)]hey my horn and my cigarette lighter doesn't work , i have replace all the fuses up underneath the panel is there anything else that i should be looking for . i've go '88 f150 4x4 swb, it had an I6 in it and the owner before me changed it over to a 302 , it was also a manual trans, now has a slam shifter in it.

the previous owner jerry rigged everything and i'm trying to sort it out.

 

you may want to contact the dealership, i know the nasty "d" word but just ask them , i know they told me about a year ago that it would be about $500 to fix the cruise control , on their best guess and about $200 just to look at it. I told them to stick it you know where .
