I just traded a rancher some old oilfield equiptment for a 1959 crewcab. I looked in my Ford books and can't find anything about a crewcab being built in the 1957 - 1960 series. Does anyone here have any info on these crewcabs?

With a rare bird like that, you are morally obligated to post pics of it post haste! If I had more than 30mins at a time alloted to me at the library, I'd research it for you....just for somethin' to do!

 

They weren't an option. It was always an aftermarket company. I'll look in a few books tonight and get back to ya'. -4speed

 

yeah, extended cabs on these older trucks certainly were not an option, they were built by an aftermarket company. Yes they are rare. Yes certainly get pictures up ASAP. Since I'm building my own extended cab, I'd love to see how others are put together.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take some digital pics in the next day or two. The cab has some dents but its mostly rust free. Probably spent most of its life here in the desert. If I can find a vin plate or other ID plate I'll post that too.

Crew cabs from 57-64 were aftermarket modifications. Ford's first production crew cab was introduced in 1965 as a dealer special order item. Source: "Ford Trucks Since 1905" by James K. Wagner.

 

Ive seen a couple of them,, they were special ordered and built for the railroad and i think the airforce. Ive seen one with a short box stepside and the other was a 4x4 marmon harrington conversion

 

I myself have a 1960 F250 Crewcab built my Oreville Specialty Co. out of I believe Ohio. I've heard that in 1960 LESS than 1000 were built, mine is number 971. If you look on the passenger side rear seat mount, there should be a tag with all info on it. Mine was supposedly an ex military truck, but I belive it to be an ex fire truck from the county where I now reside, scarry huh? It's two wheel drive with a six foot step side bed and a 6 cylinder originally. Check my gallery for picts. I saw one for sale a couple years ago in the Classic Car trader labeled as a 1961, but it was a 1960 as well. You are lucky to have found one Rare truck.

 

Here's some info I dug up(told you I would get back to you, just a little later than most)

A crew cab was aftermarket from the fallowing companies:

Proctor-Keefe body co; INC. Detroit michigan. They did not extend the chassis and did not use a ford door handels or windows for the conversion. It had one door on left side, two on the right. Would look like a hick job nowdays.

Armbruster and Co: INC. fort smith ark. Uses ford doors and has for of them, uses shortned frame. Looks like a quality job.

Crown steel products, N main street, orrville, Ohio

Appears to use 4 ford doors with vent windows still intact on a shortned frame.

How's that for getting back to you? These are not all of the manufactors of bodies in 1960, rather the ones out of an aftermarket catalog from a ford dealership from 1960. -4speed

According to "Hildy's 1958 Ford Blue Book Special Equipment for Ford Trucks!" Over 500 suppliers of Special Order Equipment offered by Ford as Special Order Options are listed for Single & Fleet conversion orders.
In 1958 "The D.E.K. Manufacturing Co." offered Not only a "Crew Cab" conversions in 2, 3 & 4 door Modles, but also a "Sleeper Cab".
The "Armbruster & Co. offered a 4 door "Crew Cab" conversion as well as "Procter-Keefe Body Co." Crew Cab conversion which were both mentioned already.

So as you can see if you wanted a Special Order a Specific Type of Option, Ford had Contracters on call to do just that.
