C6 Transmission Filter change?
I pull a 25ft Gooseneck trailer with my 1975 F-250 4X4 with my antique tractors. I want to change my tranny filter, How many quarts to refill, and what do you think about replacing the old fluid with synthetic tranny fluid?? Can a person tighten the bands in these C6's.. Thanks for your time and help..........390man

I dont remember the fluid capacity. You can adjust the intermediate band. The screw is on the left side of the case. Put a new lock nut on the screw. Tighten the screw to10 ftlb's, then back it out exactly 1.5 turns. Tighten the new lock nut to 40 ft lbs.

The filter in a C6 is a simple screen. If it appears clean and the fluid is clear it really doesn't need to be changed. The C6 holds 11 -13 qts of fluid. Drain the torque converter and clean out the pan. Pour in 6 qts then start the engine (trans in Park) add 4 -5 more qts then check with the dipstick. Most 4x4's hold about 12qts when serviced and as much as 13qts on OH. While the band is certainly adjustable the friction material is so thin that if it needs to be adjusted it likely is worn out. Check the dipstick for the right fluid, in 1975 C6 used type F fluid. The first use of Dexron was in May of 76.
