I would say buy a rolled V-8 explorer. Something that is totaled but the drivetrain is still useable. You can use the entire wiring harness, computer, engine, rear end, dash . . . You get the idea. Everything should swap over relatively easily. The V-8 explorers all had AC too so swap in the climate controls along with everything else and there you have it.

I also have a gutless 2.3 L, 94 Ranger XLT. There are a lot of options available for a 302 swap. Emissions is more than likely an issue for you, so a late model set up from a wreck might be the way you want to go. I made the mistake of buying a 1984 302 from a Bronco to rebuild, most of it was junk and I am building an engine one piece at a time, I am getting what I want but its getting exspensive. Lucky for me the County where I live doesn't have emissions testing, cause it is going to be a non-emissions engine.
