new member- old topic !
trying to find information on a rear window a/c install kit.
"SKS Shooter" was on here a couple of years ago, and had a couple of nice installs, (one in the lower door, one in the window), and then the thread faded.
Are you guys trying to tell me that after ALL these years, NOBODY, has ever come up with a DIY install kit for a Ford Van Rear Window a/c ?
REALLY ? We ALL STILL have to start from SCRATCH, make a template
of the rear window, make a crappy little wood or aluminum filler piece, go to Brandsmart, and buy the requisite "Fridgidaire" $100 compact A/C, THEN go to Ace Hardware and buy the Aluminum brackets, design and fabricate
the Window Bracket, and fumble around like cave men in 20 frickin 14 ? or WHAT ? Buy an $800 Coleman "Low-Pro" roof mount unit and have it installed at rayside truck and trailer for 2 gazillion dollars ? or WHAT ? Spend $30k on a USED Roadtrek ?
Yes, I've seen the thread about "Safari Condo", where you have to drive to Flippin Quebec, to get your "Custom Unit", but I'm Flabbergasted that SOMEONE, after all these years, hasn't come up with a better rear window mount solution or kit for us common hard working guys !
HELP, I REPEAT HELP ! SOMEONE out there kindly direct me to the website
where I can buy the READY MADE install kit for a FORD VAN.
I'll GLADLY go to BRANDSMART or LOEWS, and buy the 5,000 btu unit !!
if "SKS Shooter" is still alive out there, contact me, please !
I will help you finish your project and design ! this has gone on for too long
unresolved ! Us POOR, FORGOTTEN, HARD WORKING , MIDDLE CLASS
guys want COOL VANS !

A/C update
Well Guys I apoligize, because I vented a little bit about the Sorry
state of affairs with creating a Van Camper. I got 1 or 2 responses
(one from an administrator) who basically said we like to run our vans
stock and don't do that sort of thing ! can you believe that **** !
It was actually ON THIS SITE Where I saw the Conversion Pictures
and set up for a rear window a/c install, AT A FRACTION OF THE COST
of a rooftop unit, so not to disagree with the administrator, but YOU
are WRONG ! I got my brain box working and here is what I did.
I found an E250 Cargo Van with SOLID back doors, swapped 1 out,
and now I have a STEEL DOOR to cut my a/c insert into. A Fridgidaire
A/c at Brandsmart USA for $119, a couple of angle brackets, and HEY,
it's a DONE DEAL Ford Lovers ! AWESOME ICE COLD A/C in sweltering
Florida !! AND NO, I am not going to post pictures of the project, because
all of you guys out there couldn't give me the simple and courteous time to answer me or my post ! Good Luck with your High and Mighty Site,
for myself, I'm freezing my *** off in my STOCK VAN, without any help from you guys, and your rigid and stupid rules and regs.

Good Luck beejek
I, for one, would have liked to have your idea shared on this site. I am always open to finding a new way to use Ford vans. Glad you solved the problem. Best of luck in all things,...jack

Judging "all you guys" by 1 or 2 responses to a rare request seems a bit abrupt.
Good luck with the long term function of your AC unit--I'm guessing that these home AC units differ from model to model and year to year that a set template or frame is not a likely possibility. I'm also guessing that a cheap window AC unit won't have a super long life being bounced around for thousands of miles, but if it works for you, good deal. I'd try to float the unit in a vibration-absorbing rubber mount to minimize road shock.
This is a mature forum with a fairly calm group of intelligent adults, so posting frantically and angrily isn't the best way to get help. Many of our members may visit the site only once a week, so sometimes an answer might take a while. And maybe giving a hint as to the nature of your question in the title of your post would help too... "new member old topic" doesn't catch someone's eye as a post about air conditioning.
Stay cool, or as the expression goes, "chill"...

Add an "R" to OP's user name and we get a more clear idea of the real personality behind the mass condemnation we've collectively received. Good gravy what an over reaction but we do need to remind the occasional newbie we strive for a no tears forum, sorry to disappoint.
George has this spot on and not sure what else to add other than best of luck with the new-found cold van, hope its happy motoring from here until forever.
