I like your location description---although I once had a great time at Zeri's (sp?) in Cherry Hill, back in the later 70's!
You can consult an owners manual for your year and chassis---that should give you a ton of info, no pun intended.
Mileage sounds about right for that motor without towing, not sure what it will be pulling a load.
Sorry can't be of more specific help.

Is it an E150 or E350 Club Wagon?
My '02 4.6 E150, which is a conversion but probably about the same weight as an E150 Club Wagon, has averaged slightly over 16 mpg over its entire lifetime of 120k miles. (I have kept records of every gas fill since it was new.) It will get 17-18 mpg on the road if I take it easy; lowest mileage is on winter gas, city driving, where it gets about 13.
If you are looking at an E350, it will get less mpg because it's heavier and I think has a stiffer gear ratio as OEM with the 4.6.
EDIT--I just looked at the owner's manual link and note that the E350 Club Wagon in 2006 did not offer the 4.6, so you must be looking at an E150. Less towing, more mpg...
Good luck,
George

An E150 with the 4.6 is the best gas mileage combination of any full sized van, ever. Both on EPA ratings and in real life. I have owned 4 different big vans since 1986 and all of them used to get 12-14 mpg. As I said, I have legitimately averaged over 16 mpg over 120k miles.
Mileage will go down if you carry a big load or pull a trailer, but lightly loaded, you can really get 17-18 on the road. Also, don't put heavy all terrain tires on it or you will lose mileage--Michelin LTX M/S's were the OEM tires and they are part of the mileage equation (and give a great ride as well). I'm on my 3rd set (just put a new set on at 120k).
Good luck,
George
