F700 Trans compatability
OK so I have been browsing and can't find much info on this topic but I have an 88 f700 with a 429 and an Eaton 5 speed the Trans is shot and a non overdrive the truck has less than 75k -on it someone was on obviously very hard on the Trans however the rest of truck has been garage kept for its entire life of each owner truck so what I want is a list of transmissions that are bolt on adaptable with an overdrive that part is a must now since I know Ford offered a zf5 In a factory 460 truck however I know there are a few different zf5 throughout the years and what would pros and cons be with the different ones and do I have to utilize a hydraulic clutch or not and what about a zf6 if possible that would be my first choice but don't think it was ever offered in a 460 so don't know about compatibility and also will the adapter plate that I now have work with anything else or just the Eaton thanks

Figure out what bell you have first. then finding a replacement trans will be simpler.
post #7 of the thread below has a diagram of the SAE bellhousings.

There are plenty of options out there, Camoreta truck parts has them on the shelf ready to go for short money Camerota | Drivetrain specialists. Or if you want to do some digging hit up the bone yard. My F600 has a NP435 in it and they are a dime a dozen.
