Anyone know of a good rebuild manual for Ford axles?

I would like to rebuild the rear axle on my 2005 F-150.
Axle Model V-953-J, 9.75" ring gear, 3:73 ratio, limited slip.

I have never attempted this or even watched it other than a few videos. Tools, not a problem! I don't doubt that I'm capable of doing it. I just don't have the confidence to attempt it without a very good manual.

Any suggestions that would cover this axle will be greatly appreciated!!

Check out the Chilton and/or Haynes manuals for your truck. You can find them at most book stores, some auto parts houses sell them and you can get them online. Probably the best is the Ford Service Manual from Ford Motor Company. Helm Publishing sells them and they are very detailed about every job but they are expensive -- on the order of $150 for a full 3 volume set.

The chilton/haynes only give basics on how to repair/replace axle bearing or axle shaft. They avoid the specifics on setting up a differential because it's for advanced skill level. "should be performed by professionals"

The FMC Service Manual is probably my best bet, but for now I have talked myself out of doing the rebuild AGAIN!

We'll see what the bearing replacement accomplishes.
