Oh, man, they tossed it! Don't ever let them do that. I'd make them pay for a replacement unless you ok'd throwing it away.
You should be able to find a pump just about anywhere. The only potential problem is that the pulley may not work with the new pump. So when you go to pick it up, make sure that the pulley fit's and when you get home, make sure the pulley lines up before you bolt it on. If it doesn't, it is not a big deal, you can continue to look for a pump or get a pulley to match. Most pulley and pump combos directly interchange.

I hope you found that water pump!! If you didn't, I noticed that there are (2) "core' 292/272 water pumps on ebay right now for what I consider cheap since they seem to be hard tofind these days.
I would probably get both of them except I just bought a new (old-stock) pump from ebay a couple of weeks ago! I think I REALLY scored since it's in absolutely in "new" condition!
I also have an old water pump that is probably ok to use but is a little rusty and I do have a repair/rebuild "kit" I got from MACs a couple of years ago. so I'll rebuild mine to have a "spare".
I would suggest that whomever is looking for a pump, that you get one or both of those cores.
I don't know why, but all of a sudden, 50-60's Y-block water pumps seem scarce!

I did find a company in Oregon that will rebuild water pumps (all types)
They're a little expensive and a little slow (IMHO).
There's companies all around that do this. It may be our only source of good Y-block water pumps in the future!

Be aware of what you are buying, most ebay sellers haven't a single clue what parts fit.
For example, cars use a different Y block water pump than the trucks.
1954 truck 239/256 Y block pump (EAT-8501-B) is 1954 only. 1955 239/256 pump (B6T-8501-B) is the same as 1956 272 H/D.
1957/61 272/292 C Series Tilt Cabs use a specific water pump (B7T-8501-A).
B6C-8501-B .. Y Block Water Pump / Obsolete
1956/60 F100/600 272 M/D / 1957/64 F100/700 292 / 1962/64 292 C Series Tilt Cabs.
For example, cars use a different Y block water pump than the trucks.

For those that don't know, the C/P trucks have a mount-pad on the top of the water pump for mounting the Fan and drive pulley.
The pickups didn't have it. The 239 water pump will only fit on the 239 timing cover. (and the 272/292 pumps will only fit on the the respective timing cover)
I am told that a 239/256 timing cover will fit on a 272/292 block. I had both but didn't try it.
I bought my last P-series "high-mount" (fan) pump from Rock Auto a few years ago. They only had a few left and now they're all gone.
I have subsequently decided to not use a high-mount fan, (and sold the pump to a very grateful guy here in Wa)
So I am now using the most commonly available (truck) water pump for my 1960 292 that is going in my 55 F-600.
If anyone has old Y-block water pumps, DON'T just throw them away!

So I look up the part # and nobody has them? That is, Cardone has 58-235 and 58-234 - for the trucks, that is. Plenty of those, but which one is correct? From the photos the inlet is on the wrong side.
Then I thought, well I'll just buy a rebuild kit for $14.95 the hell with it. Turns out there's two different rebuild kits. Some have 1-7/8ths diameter seals, others have 1-1/2 diameter seals. "Measure first". Sure! Seems like too often ordering parts is always an adventure with the 64.

According to summit racing:
58-234 has a 3/4" shaft which is correct for a truck but they don't list the applications.
58-235 application list is cars, which should have a 5/8" shaft but they don't indicate the shaft diameter.
Ship date for each is tomorrow, which I take to mean it is in stock.
Both have the inlet on the correct side. I think maybe your seeing the front of one and the back of the other. There is only one inlet location for a Y block so if it is shown on the passenger side then it is not a Y Block water pump.
I suspect the car and truck shaft diameter difference is the reason for the seal difference of the rebuild kits.
Before you order a pump, check the shaft diameter because the car pump and pulley will directly replace the truck pump and pulley and there is no telling what the engine has after more than 50 years.

Oreillys didn't have any availability for a time...(maybe they were negotiating with the suppliers!)
I'd still make sure that you have a spare!!
and when you determine the dimensions, I'd make sure you have a rebuild kit on hand too!!
