Well they say bad things come in threes so hopefully this is my last hiccup. Some of you that read my Frustration threads will be aware of my month long lifter problem as well as my carb problem.
Well I've managed to get a few miles on the mercury and I'm quite pleased with how it performs now after the two problems were taken care of. I've now got a problem with a leaking rad.
Supposedly it was fitted with a new core and all soldered up. Then it was pressure tested and was ready to go. ( Think I got the same story about my carb and engine.) I noticed some weeping on the front of the top tank so have removed it and replaced with another one that is supposed to be tested and ready to go. We'll know soon enough after I finish the installation.
Does anyone make a new guaranteed radiator for out flathead trucks ? Just in case I have to got with a new rad to cure my problem. Thanks for your replies,

What pressure cap are you running? 4 psi is stock. I'd stick with the stock radiators unless it just gets impossible. Copper/brass is the best conductor. A shop can always replace the upper tank if it's really bad.

 

I'm running a 4 psi cap Ross. I'd like to run a stock rad but the rad shop I dealt with didn't impress me. Less than 200 miles and leaking already ? We have no rad shop here in town so I have to go an hour east or could try the one south of me.
I'm disappointed with the customer service that I've gotten so if there was a good reproduction rad then I would be tempted to go that route. Just curious about a reproduction rad.

There is a shop in Oakville, that does alll my work without any issues.
They will be doing one of my 3 rads (whichver is in the best shape)
Not sure if that is too far away?

 

Oakville isn't too far but I'm thinking of a shop in Chatham. I was told that they do work for RM. If they are good enough for RM than hopefully they will do a good job for me.

I've almost got my spare rad in. Had to run some errands this morning. Hopefully this one will get me through a show on Saturday and the bigger one on Sunday. It isn't as pretty but all it has to do is cool and not leak.
I'm hoping to make Arthur if all goes well.

Got my back up rad in and went for a short drive. Everything seems to be okay. Should be able to carry on with the two shows this weekend. Thanks for the information on the London rad shop Jim. Might have to take my leaky rad and drop by Ace rad for a visit.

I mentioned to my new neighbor that I was unhappy with the job a local radiator shop had done trying to patch the top tank of my radiator. Sloppiest job I've ever seen. The neighbor remarked that he used to work on radiators and would be happy to help me replace the tank. He came over last week and made it look easy.
We took a good tank off a banged up core I had and attached it to the good core after removing the leaky top.

 

Wish I had a neighbour like that. And you had a poor experience with a rad shop too? I just don't know what to think of some of these places. I'm going to try the rad place in London, Ont. as it sounds promising and is a shorter drive for me. Glad my backup rad seems to be holding together. I've got a presentation ceremony at the body shop today. And another show in town tomorrow to get to. Hopefully they will be problem free.

A weep doesn't sound like a serious leak. It may seal itself after some use. Regardless I would carry a small bottle of Bars Leak. Also in a pinch you can use cigarettes (filtered or unfiltered). I have heard of people using eggs too but I know that cigarettes work on even a serious leak. I agree with Ross on the stock radiator and cap.

If you can't find anyplace closer there is a really good radiator shop B & B Universal that has been there for years at 12727 Greenfield Rd, Detroit, MI. It is right off I-96 at Greenfield. It is not as far as London, ON.
