Generator to Alternator

Generator to Alternator
I have a 64 F100 with a 292 Y block. The generator is making some very unhappy noise. I have had it repaired before, and I have a very good local auto electronics shop to do the work, but I am considering replacing it with an alternator.
What do I need to do to make the switch besides remove the voltage regulator?
What is the correct spec for a new alternator for this engine?
Who makes a good general service unit? I use this truck, I don't need racing equipment.
Thanks.

This was discussed fairly recently.

I think pretty much any alternator will do the job for you.
