5 star tuning

09 V10 which one of the tuners would you get? im not sure what the biggest differences are. do you need to plug each one in when you want to change the tune that you are using? mainly want to get one for towing 10k lb camper

You don't need a tuner on a 2009 V-10 to tow a 10k camper.

Tuners really don't do much for gas trucks in terms of power. The tow/haul mode should help, also rear end gearing will make more of a difference than tuning.

The V10 is a serious pulling machine, the 10k should be no issue!

How so? The tuning on these trucks with the 05+ trucks is pretty aggressive compared to the 99-04 models. It's not a diesel and pulling 10k behind a 3V V10 is nothing. The last thing you want to do is start running tunes while dragging a trailer around. Nothing beats the factory tow haul mode setting.

V10's produce their peak power at 4250 -4500 rpm. Running anything past that is a waste. How would a tuner help In terms of power on a gasser?

On the pre 05 trucks it's a different story.

throttle response will feel more like a cable not drive by wire, trans shifting strategy's are much better and quite a nice bump in hp and tq and tow haul works even better.

Do a search, it makes the truck feel like it dropped 2000 lbs, its the best mod you can make to a 3v v10 even the 87 octane tune.

I don't know where you are getting this information, but if you go on the 6.8 thread, you will find out that the Mike's 5 Star will definately wake up the 3V 6.8. I have his tunes with 87 tow/performance, 89 tow/performance, and 91 performance. I run mine in 89 tow/performance all the time. If you have a 2V early 6.8, you will gain alot of power and mileage by removing the old Y pipe and new exhaust. Then add the Mike's 5 Star. Regardless, Mike's 5 Star will definately make a difference in power and help with towing.

What kind of power? Any dyno sheets before and after to verify the huge power gains? The dyno would also give a better picture of where and how the power is increased

I don't know about the 6.8 but I did have a 2010 F150 with the 5.4 and put a tuner on it and you could not believe the world of difference it makes! I not only got a lot more power but also increased my mileage by 2 to 3 mpg's.

You obviously haven't been on Mike's web site, the dyno results are all there.

That sounds promising. Might have to look into that for the wifes expedition.

Your right I havent looked. Last time I looked around for stuff like that most companies just threw out numbers and that had no backing. I will check it out

The tuner DEFINITELY wakes up the V10. I only run an 87 octane tow/perf tune and it is sweet. Anyone who says the tuner doesnt help the V10 is not familiar with a tuned V10. Specially one tuned by 5 Star. It will hurt MPG but adds a ton to the way the transmission shifts in or out of tow/haul. Definitely worth the $ if you want a great mod.

Ps you can ask the fellow in his 6.0 what he thinks of my tuned V10 from the other day. He looked surprised from what I could see in my mirror.
