Mississippi Vehicle Registrations

I have a question for you folks that have 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks here in Ms.
I am looking at trading my truck this year, I have found a 3/4 ton that I like at a decent price, the question is this:
When registering a 3/4 or 1 ton, is there a special tag you buy from Ms.? I know that the GVW has something to do with it, growing up, my dad had farm trucks, etc.. I've just never dealt with the issue personally. Is it very much more expensive?

Also, the truck I'm looking at is a 2014 F250 4X4, it states it has the 10,000 GVWR package, wtf is that?

I went from a F-150 to a F-250 this past fall. The tag in Lawrence Co. was about $40 higher because of the 10,000 GVWR and instead of the standard tag you get a B-10 tag. You can still get a personal tag but you still pay the higher B-10 price plus the personal charge.

10,000 GVWR = 10,000 pound Gross Vehicle Weight Rating --- This is the total weight of the vehicle + people + Cargo.

Hope you enjoy the new F-250, I LOVE mine.....

Another note about tags, you can get the VIN and go to the county tax office and they will let you know how much $$$ the tag will cost before you buy the vehicle.

Thanks, wasn't sure if it was a B10 or F10 (I guess F is a farm truck) I'm sure where I live, the initial tag will be Astronomical! (Lamar Cty.) Amazing the difference tags are in different counties(tax base).

Haven't completely made my mind up yet, leaning towards the 250 hard though.

I got mine at Courtesy Ford in H'burg. It'll be less in Lamar Co. than Forrest Co.

Looking at one in Slidell, I bought my last truck there in 2011, got a better deal than I could in Ms. Courtesy doesn't seem to want to sell a truck to me, oh well.

I went into shock when I bought my first Miss tag. It was in 88 in Horn Lake. I had 4 year tags from La for $40. My 8 year old 1/2 ton cost $480 for the first year. The guy in front of me had a new Town car. $2800 first year tags.

Yeah, it can be pretty rough, worse sticker shock than actually buying the vehicle!

I moved to Tn before I bought a new truck. I liked living in Miss just south of Memphis. Horn Lake, Southaven & Olive Branch were just across the line but the crime stayed in Memphis. Good law enforcement kept it out. I moved to Collierville Tn. It had the same kind of law enforcement. Crime can be stopped.

Yes, sir, you are correct. We still have some issues, nothing like larger Metropolitan areas. We may be "behind the times", but to me, that's a good thing!
