Adding additional battery box, what part?

I'm looking to add an addt'l external battery box to the right side frame rail, next to the existing one (diesel models). Does anyone know what search terms to use on Ebay to locate a used one?

No luck using "ford external battery diesel box tray dual" or various combos of that. These things gotta be out there...

Thanks

Hey I think I understand what you might be looking for. Have you checked out the Hidden Power battery tray by Torklift International? It attaches to the frame and holds a spare battery that trickle charges from your main battery.

If you are interested, send me a PM of your truck frame where you are thinking it would mount and I can direct you to a fit,

- Torklift Jen

Hi Jen, that looks ideal. I don't have any photos handy but can snap some later. What's the ballpark pricing on those?

Talked to Torklift Jen yesterday, they have some great products but more than I'd like to spend. Was ideally looking for the original aux battery box that came OEM on diesels, more like a salvage find for $20-30 cos I'm cheap like that. Otherwise I'll probably fab something myself.

I don't know if either one of these is the guy who was selling them regularly on Ebay a while back but it might be. Either way, these are the ones you want. There are holes in the van frames already for them.

Also, do a search on the Sportsmobile Forum for battery boxes and you'll get lots of hits and pics. I have built and documented a few myself.

Very nice, thanks - I knew there had to be a good source for these. Turns out there's a whole Ebay section dedicated to them.

I bought one of the factory battery boxes. Can someone show me a picture just where and how Ford mounts them on their 6.0 vans? Drivers side? Passenger side? From looking, I'm sure my 96 doesn't have holes in the correct place.

It's on the Passenger side between the rear wheel and side doors, should be more than a few holes there. Drivers side has the E Brake cable in the way........

What years use the frame mounted box? Still looking for a picture and mounting dimensions for the holes so the box will hang right.
