Hey all,

I just wanted to let you all know that there is a problem with the Fram oil filter for the 2000 F-150 the filter number is PH2. I was changing my oil the other day and I got a Fram...like I always have for my trucks. Well I screwed it on as far as it would go and it leaves a 3/4 inch gap between the filter and the gasket. I couldn’t believe it. I just wanted to post this so nobody else fall into the same situation. and get as pi$$ed of as I was.

Dont use fram anyway....they are crappy filters. I use WIX in my Jeep.

 

Same here don't use fram I've always had good luck with Motorcraft filters what the manufactures call for and beign using them since 86', but everyone has there own preference.

 

Fram PH2?? Why Fram, and why an HP2?
Go get a WIX.

 

Motorcraft has the best anti-drainback valve in them.

I say Purolator is the way to go. They have more filter material than most other filters.

 

Has any one tried a K&N oil filter?

K&N is not in there, but in my experience why buy a filter that's $10 - 15 when you can buy one that's just as good for $4.99?


I buy the purolator because it's the easiest to find in my area and it's good.

 

Motorcraft oil filters are $2.97 from Walmart.

 

Anyone one know how well Bosch filters do? I buy their plugs so I just decided to keep with them and buy their filters too.

 

I don't like bosch plugs at all. Even though they are made by Ford, i don't recommend them at all. My 98 F150 has eaten 2 sets in less than 20k miles. Thats not good. I use Motorcraft and my plugs last at least 50k miles. Wierd. But every technician I have talked to said that Ford Engines eat Bosch stuff alive. As for the oil filter, I would think so. Motorcraft filters are only 3 bucks at walmart and are way better than most on them market, plus ford recommends them.

Bosch plugs made by Ford???? I don't think so.....I stick with
Motorcraft plugs in my Ranger, but Bosch plugs run well in my
gasoline Mercedes.......

 

I thought Bosch was a German based company? And if Ford makes Bosch why don't they put them in their cars and trucks instead of Motorcraft.

 

How easy is it to change the oil in these trucks? I don't even bother in my Miata, way too low to the ground and the oil filter is a pain in the **** to reach. I looks like the oil filter in my 4.6L is right behind the front bumper on the driver's side. Can you reach in there with your hand?

I just changed my oil 2 days ago for the first time. It wasn't bad at all. A filter wrench with the side to side swivel makes it easier. You can get your arm up to it and it comes down right in front of the differential. There is even a plastic piece to route the oil that comes out when you loosen the filter that guides to down to the drain pan so that it doesn't get all over everything. 16mm is the drain plug size PH820S is the correct filter. It did take 6 1/2 quarts to hit the full mark like was discussed in another thread.

Now on to the Bosch plugs. DO NOT USE the platinums. Bad design. My dad's 89 F150 5.0 EFI was wasted by one of these plugs. It only had 109,000 miles on it and ran like a top. One day he brings it to me and says it is missing and pushing oil into the air cleaner. So, I pulled the plugs and #8 was wet. I installed new plugs and wires. It still missed and blew oil, but not as bad. I inspected the plug that came out of #8 and low and behold, the platinum electrode was gone!!! This engine had never detonated so I know it wasn't that, that caused the plug to fail. So we bought a reman. engine from the company in town that rebuilds all of Ford's replacement parts, My friend works there so I got the long block that was .030 over and 10/10 on the crank for $900 and a 3 yr warranty. Anyway, I pulled the head off after removing the old engine and found out where the platinum went. Right down the cylinder wall putting a nice scar all of the way down causing the compression to go right past the rings. I will always use Motorcraft from now on!! They are made by Ford. Bosch is made in Germany for Porche.
