F100 front Dana 44 fit rear??
Hi, Another general purpose question. Ripped a 1976-1980 F100 4X4 FRONT end apart for the brake set up and whilst I was at it, took the Dana 44 3.5:1 Crown wheel and pinion, in excellent nick. Have a LSD Dana 44 REAR here as well with a few noises, 3.73:1 so was wondering if the Ford front CW & P will fit into the rear 44? Believe it is NOT the HP version, anyway of telling by the Dana numbers stamped on the rim of the crown wheel? Not having a great deal of luck with Dana numbers for some reason, maybe not asking in the right forum section?? BTW, using it in 2WD vehicle!

Dave, this page has a lot of useful info: Mr.N's Dana Articles to Include 44, 60 information.
Specifically this page: Dana 44 Solid Front Axle: Reverse Spiral and Standard Housing info..
The front D44 should be a High Pinion one. All F100 front axles from 1966+ had D44HP's to my knowledge. This means that the pinion and ring gear are cut in the opposite direction and aren't transferable to the rear axle.
