2010 f150 crewcab and the cab corners are rusting on both sides. I just bought it and it has 90,000 miles on it. Ford corporate is my local dealer says since it's not rusting all the way through they won't touch it. This is my 4th ford pickup. No longer. Seems like the only way ford Made it through the economic downturn is by making a crap product and selling it for more. I am severely disappointed in Ford and their lack of customer support.

 

So you bought a 2010 with 90K miles & your trashing Ford? Do you know if the previous owner ever even washed this particular truck? Too many variables to be blaming Ford my friend. If you bought it new & washed it regularly I would be sympathetic but not in this case. You bought a used vehicle with 90K miles dude!

 

He must be really mad, he posted the same thread 3x. Sorry about your luck, hope they do something, but not likely. Its way past the warranty. Maybe PM Crystal, her handle is FordService on here and see if she can possibly offer some assistance

I'd say it sounds like you failed yourself here by not fully inspecting this vehicle prior to purchase. Bad luck, but this is in no way a Ford problem.

 

Ford does have a corrosion warranty. Would be worth your time looking into that.

there was one other user that got their truck repaired under the terms of Ford's corrosion warranty, IIRC.

One also has to wonder why you didn't discover this problem before buying the truck? Did you not conduct any sort of inspection?

 

The corrosion warranty covers rust "perforation" from the inside out. It's not going to cover surface rust, rust from sandblasted paint or scratches to bare metal that allow rust to form. The auto industry has done a great job of protecting itself in this regard.

I was just shocked that the rust would be that significant.
I did see the rust but it appeared to be only surface and I thought I could fix it.

I actually went to 3 different body shops before going to Ford.

I did end up going back to my dealer, Zeck Ford in Leavenworth, KS.

They took extremely good care of me and were more than fair.
They traded me back for my rusty truck for a rust free 2012 F150 crewcab 4x4 ecoboost.

Has anyone use POR 15 for prevention of the undercarriage?

No, but I spray on a layer of Fluid Film grease every fall. It's not a permanent alteration to the truck. That's a plus depending how you look at things. Although, I'm not sure the metal will ever accept paint again. I know it is safe for paint but not sure new paint will ever adhere well.

 

I took the tape off the holes under the rockers and sprayed a cavity wax coating by 3m, and then used htg/cooling aluminum duct tape to cover back the holes!

 

Did that same thing with Fluid Film, but left the black factory tape in place. How has the aluminum tape held up?

 

Excellent! I got my truck undercoated after I put the tape on, and had them spray the back side of the rockers where the tape is. Everything is still in tact!
