Considering a 2011 Edge
My daughter graduates college this May and my short list is now a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Ford Edge. She's currently driving my '98 regular old Cherokee 5 spd, 4 dr with 224,000 on the clock and would like to upgrade her ride as a gift. I've been doing a lil' research and from what I've gathered a 2011Edge went thru some major interior improvements and the MPG with the AWD and cargo capacity is better than the Jeep. What have ya'll found as positives with your Edge, and what would you change if you could? Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks, Mike

My wife's Edge is comfortable and nice. It gets 25 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg around town. The only problem we had was a PTU going bad. It never left us stranded, just smelled kind of like burning oil. Ford replaced it under warranty. I wasn't sold on the AWD until this last week when it got slick and snowy outside, the car hooks up great and easy to drive in bad weather conditions. Only downside to the AWD is if you get 1 unrepairable flat, you get 4 new tires. Tires can only be 2/32 difference and be out of spec, so a tire shop wont take the liability.

Sorry for the long delay in posting. I just got done with bi-lateral total knee replacements and am in recovery\therapy mode right now. As a question...Is that PTU used in any of the other Ford line-up like the Flex, Freestyle or MKX or is it specific to the Edge? Second question is... has Ford cleaned up the MyTouch\Synch radio system with software or firmware updates or are the quirks still evident after a supposed 'fix'?
Thanks in advance. Mike

My wife has a 2011 MKX--I believe the Nav/Sync are the same. She has gotten used to it--was a strain at first. I would like to have one like it in my '09 450.
And no problems with the MKX--I think they are basically the same vehicle except for some upgrades inside. I can tell you the 305hp motor really can fly.
