Is $37k unreasonable
My dad is in the market for a new Ford expedition and we came across a new 4x2 King Ranch. It has EVERY option including air suspension. the dealer is asking $51k and he surely wont pay that much for it. He's 52 and this will probably be his last vehicle since he doesnt replace them often and takes well care of them. I think this expo could last 20 years so as long as that happens it will be his last.
Anyways, he would be a buyer at $37k and that was stepping up from 35. Really would like to have this truck join the family as I am the biggest fan of the 5.4L's and this Metalic Blue King Ranch would look BEAUtiful next to the old '05. It would be amazing to have a 4spd 5.4L and a 6spd TANK 5.4L

Well then go to the other dealers? I'm sure you will find that they are selling base models with few options at that price. MSRP is what it is, it isn't like they are trying to fool you, it is readily available and printed right on the window sticker, and the same across the country. So, expecting them to take 40% off is pretty unreasonable. You should look at vehicles in your price range rather than something that is clearly optioned well above what you are willing to pay.

So you guys are really paying over 50k for these trucks? They are beautiful and awesome trucks, no doubt. But my dad wouldn't think of paying over $50k for a vehicle, all that depreciating value. He would hate losing that much money. He considers them transportation and doesn't believe they are worth that. I guess the goal now is getting him to bite the bullet and raise his number

I bought my '10 Limited in June for $36k, it has all options except air suspension and had 20k on the odometer. That is the kind of compromise you are going to have to make, and yes the answer is that people are paying over 50 for them. Many are leased which makes the pickings for depreciated 3 year old cars good. Maybe you shouldn't be pushing him into something you think will look beautiful in the driveway when it clearly isn't going to meet his needs, as any new vehicle will have a steep depreciation.

Well I didn't choose the vehicle. He fell in love with the Eddie Bauer we have and decided to go to the next level with a king ranch or limited. I'm just here to educate him, look over the car and make sure we come out of this with a nice vehicle for the future when I happen to buy it off of him.
